Neston Parklet
Funded through the COVID Outbreak Management Fund as part of a scheme of initiatives to support the High Street, the Neston Parklet has been installed on a busy stretch of road just off the main High Street.
Heavy duty, timber clad, powder coated steel planters were used to bookend the Parklet for 2 reasons. Firstly they frame the Parklet with large amelanchier trees to give the Parklet a strong presence in the overall streetscape. Secondly they provide the Parklet with enhanced protection from passing vehicles.
Toughened glass sections in the planter trellis frames provide users with protection from acoustic and physical pollution with the greenery creating a calming green oasis feel.
To minimise the impact on the highway, the Parklet bleeds onto the footpath which makes the unit an inviting spot for passing pedestrians or patrons of the nearby cafes. The furniture was designed on adjustable feet which allowed the client to have a more cost efficient solution to having the Parklet than expensive civils work to rectify dropped curbs and damaged paving slabs.
Cheshire West and Chester Councillor Martin Barker said: "‘The Parklet is a great addition to the town centre. Our local independent businesses have suffered greatly during the pandemic and it was felt that businesses should have as much opportunity as possible to maximise their revenue over the next couple of months.
Increasing al fresco space will allow for this and also create a vibrant look for the public realm of Neston."
