Milsom St, Bath Parklets
After the successful install of 2 Parklets, a set of gates, and 2 bicycle racks in Kingsmead Sq, Meristem were invited back to Bath to install a further 2 Parklets in one of Bath’s key Retail Districts.
Following implementation of a bus gate on Milsom Street, a key retail street in the city centre, Bath & North East Somerset Council worked with the local businesses to deliver Parklets in empty parking bays.
These Parklets extend the central dwell space along the street to create an attractive, green, public space for visitors and shoppers.
“ The Parklets allow us to reimagine how the street could function and constitute the first phase of a wider programme of public realm improvements and animation.”
The local geography of the area presented a challenge as Milsom Street has a steep gradient. The furniture is all level whilst the base is flush with the kerb to ensure the facility is DDA compliant and open for all to use. Accurate, laser-cut fascias were installed to finish the project off and ensure litter couldn’t collect underneath the planters.
What did our client think?
“Meristem Design responded well to the parameters we were working with in a sensitive, historic environment; incorporating specific design criteria and materials to create pieces of street furniture which complemented the context.
The Parklets and cycle racks are of great quality and have been well received in the city, by the public, businesses and politicians alike.”
