Mill Street Parklet, Perth and Kinross

Our first parklet outside of London was installed on Mill Street in Perth and Kinross, Scotland. located by the Perth Concert Hall, at 90 m² it is the largest Parklet ever constructed in the UK. Comprising of two zones, it houses stylish street furniture, surrounded by brightly painted steel planters containing a variety of plant species. They are positioned in Perth’s ‘cultural corridor’ of Mill Street, which links together the concert hall, museum and art gallery - and so creating a colourful and lively space in the centre of the town.

This was paid for by Perth & Kinross Council, as part of their vision to become ‘one of Europe’s great small cities’. The council’s plan is to invest heavily in places and spaces for people, funding projects in urban greening and green routes across the city. Our parklets are a cornerstone of this initiative, they combine planting, street furniture and bike storage to showcase the benefits of pedestrianisation, as well as to encourage greener and more socially friendly use of public spaces.

The parklet will help make the area an attractive space for local workers and residents to enjoy, by providing an area for temporary business and council markets, events, and other public activities.

The design includes 4 bike stands, accommodating 8 bikes for temporary bike parking, seating for up to 14 people, 2 large tree's and a 12 metre long trellis of climbing and sprawling plants. The planting scheme is a soft and natural theme, incorporating glorious scents and some edible plants, including rosemary, cherries, and bay bushes. The design is also modular, so it can be moved to other locations over the 3 boroughs. The deck is split into 10 sections, and has a steel frame with adaptable height feet to suit a variety of curb heights. The planters are also designed as such to be taken apart and reassembled in an alternative location.
