Cargo Bike Parklet in London - Hackney

Mentmore Terrace, next to London Fields Overground station, has been the latest location to receive two more parklets in the London borough of Hackney

The council continues to move forward in their efforts of reducing the dominance of cars on our roads through their transport strategy, with one module housing space for 8 bicycles, and the other for 2 cargo bikes.

Each parklet is also home to 6 planters, filled with a variety of plants and bulbs to attract pollinators and bring some natural colour to Mentmore terrace. A variety of both perennials and evergreens will provide structure and greenery all year round. Each planter is also topped with an upper railing, offering further space for bikes to be locked.

Hackney council has also planted a new tree in the pit next to the cargo bike parklet.

The parklets are situated outside The Fisheries, a community driven coworking space in a 200 year old renovated warehouse, promoting a sustainable working environment. The parklets will provide an increased number of safe locations to lock bikes belonging to those both working there and commuting through London fields station, as well as cargo bikes used by parents or small businesses in the area.

WHAT IS A PARKLET?

Parklets range in type and quality, from temporary grass-covered mini-parks to moveable semipermanent wood decks with elements such as, but not limited to seating, tables, planters with planting and greenery, green roof, pergola, bike parking or lighting that reflect the unique character and needs of the location.
