Merton Rain Gardens

We have rolled out a series of rain gardens across Merton. The first three were completed in Wimbledon using the Sustainable Drainage System better known as SuDs.

The rain gardens are an attractive way of reducing surface water by allowing vegetation and plants to retain the majority of the rainfall and increase the lag time of infiltration, while also remediating and filtering pollutants in surface runoff.

More recently, we have completed three more rain gardens.

In Eastfields, Mitcham, Meristem Design helped refresh and revitalise the local area. Existing planting at the site had mainly wilted and withered so we cleared this out and replaced the soil which was not a suitable mix for the rain gardens. Meristem planted it back up with lush greens and plants that were hardy and able to withstand the conditions and also installed boulders throughout.

The Merton Rain Gardens are located on:

  1. Wimbledon Hill

  2. Wimbledon Chase

  3. The Path, South Wimbledon

  4. Eastfields, Mitcham

  5. Raynes Park

  6. Madeira Road
