The year of 2019 is coming to an end, Christmas holidays are on there way and schools are closing down for the break. Throughout the year Meristem have been busy working on a number of projects including installing over 3000m2 of planting in London’s most polluted primary schools.
Recent research showed that the green screens reduced air pollution by an average of 40%. The benefits including improved air quality, aesthetics, privacy, screening and helping children connect with nature. Throughout the year over 40 schools throughout London had green screens and some planting installed. The most significant benefit is the effects on air quality, as many of these schools playgrounds are up against a busy street, where cars, trucks and buses are commonly idling.
Meristem has had great feedback on a number of projects, including from Robin Hood Junior School. Carrie Cookson said “I just wanted to say that the green screen is in place and looks amazing. There is a good variety of screenage plants and the under-planting and bug boxes are being inspected and appreciated by children and staff already. It really makes such a visual difference to our urban playground to have a natural green background and the main benefits are still to come. Thank you again for setting this up and to Meristem for all their hard work.”
We look forward to the new year, with a number of projects in the pipeline.
